Skirt Sports Sister Adventure: Hiking Little Si


And the Hike Begins...UP, UP, UP

 A few of the Pacific NW Skirt Sports Ambassadors met up for a wonderful hike at Little Si. The hike was steep in places, lots of rocks, lots of water with the rain, but it was beautiful and couldn't have better company!  The rocky, hilly climb in the beginning had lots of fun places for photo opportunities. The trail was simply beautiful from start to finish and as we hiked up there was a trickle of water in the path, so it felt like we were walking up a waterfall run-off. We parked in the overflow parking and highly recommend parking there because the trail is beautiful past that first parking lot.

The Summit...We Did It!

We made it to the top and had a chance to chill for just a moment. The top is a huge rock basically and there were several other people sitting and enjoying the views. Even on a rainy day, plenty of people on the trail, but not too crowded. It was so beautiful up here, but also VERY windy!  When we were almost to the top, we could see the trees swaying and hear the wind rushing around. But, it was a stunning view and definitely worth our trek up the mountain.



 
 Simply gorgeous views, amazing skirt sports friends, challenging hike up the mountain, sense of accomplishment... not bad for a Saturday morning.


And what goes up...must come down!


 I thought the downhill would be easier, it was definitely easier on my lungs, but not really on the legs. We had to watch every little step with the rocks, steep declines and water trickling through the path. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm psyched my $40 discount trail shoes did amazing. We all made it up and down with zero casualties, no falls!  Woo hoo! I can't wait for Pacific NW Skirt Sports Sister Adventure #2.  Will we be among the trees? SUPing in the Sound? Kayaking? Who knows. The one thing you can count on is this crew will be moving because #RealWomenMove

And the 2016 Seattle Marathon Ambassadors are...10 Inspiring Runners and ME!!! I was on my way to the Hollywood Half when I noticed an email from the Seattle Marathon and I screamed!  I had applied to be an Ambassador because running makes me happy and I love encouraging others to reach their goals!  I thought this would be a perfect fit to support beginning runners, runners coming back from injury (like me), and those who maybe took a long break from the marathon distance (like me).  I'm coming out of a 10 year retirement and I'm 40!  So, now, I have the honor of representing a great race in Seattle and gain a little motivation for my own training as well.  Completing this race will help me qualify for Marathon Maniacs, which is something that seems outrageous to me at the moment.  My journey to be a maniac will start in Portland in October, take me to New York City in November, and finishing at the Seattle Marathon during Thanksgiving weekend. Once You Go Skirt, You Never Go Back!

  My First Skir t: The Moment I Fell in Love with Skirt Sports! I started officially training for my first marathon in 2004 and the options for running appa r el led me to a routine I knew all to o well and didn't enjoy.  The dance went like this... run, run, run, pull down, pull down ... run , run, run, pull down, pull down.  Yeah, it wasn't cute how my shorts would ride up the inner thighs and get on my ne rves during my training runs .  After no success with running shorts, I moved t o biker shorts but felt awk ward running in shorts made for bikers. Runalicious! Little Rock Weekend!

After a very busy work week in DC, I traveled to Little Rock for my home state race!  I haven't lived in Arkansas since I was 8 years old but my family still lives there and this girl will always and forever be a Razorback fan! My skirt sister, Mary Sutter, joined me for this fun weekend and although we originally prepared for the full marathon, we both had some unexpected hiccups in our training and ended up moving to the 10K and Half Marathon challenge. Right before arriving, I was hit hard with a very bad allergy attack and sinus congestion.  I was running a slight fever the day before traveling to Little Rock and honestly, felt pretty bad.  I wasn't sure if I would even make it through the weekend but Mary and I had decided to take it easy and not stress our time.  The goal - have fun!  That's it!  And, wow, did we have some fun.
